Dance studies at the Fundación Cristina Heeren aim to form future flamenco dancers by teaching correct posture and techniques as well as the choreography skills that characterise the “Sevillian School”, such as, in the case of female dancers, the “Bata de Cola”, Mantón, Fan, and Castanets.

The principal teacher of the Dance Area is Milagros Menjibar, who teaches the Bata de Cola classes. Other teachers are: Javier Barón, Luisa Palicio, Antonio Molina “El Choro”, Manuela Barrios, Tamara Lucio…

The Academic Programme consists of three levels – Basic, Intermediate and Advanced, and each academic year has a different level and a different target. Each year students receive a diploma or a certificate that prove his/her qualifications, number of study hours and level.

These are our dance levels:

BASIC LEVEL

The aim of the Basic Dance Course is the introduction of the students to technique and rhythmic patterns as part of simple choreographies, with special attention to feet exercises and other basic exercises. The accessories that the students of the basic level will learn to use are: Manton, Abanico (fan) and castanets.

The academic programme includes theoretical and practical subjects, spread over four 90 minutes sessions!

Students of the basic level are those who are beginners, those who are not familiar with flamenco rhythms and those who have never danced with live accompaniment from a guitar player and a singer.

The schedule (mornings and afternoons) will depend on the availability of the teachers and classrooms.

INTERMEDIATE LEVEL

The Intermediate Dance Course aims to expand the study of choreography over a variety of styles. The Rhythm classes will be based on the same styles, and likewise the technique classes will enable the students to perfect their execution of the choreographies of these particular styles.
