María José Lama was born in Seville in 1952. She obtained a Bachelor's degree in Psychology, specialised in Clinical Psychology, to which she added the study of Vocal Therapy. In 1998 she started to work on the peculiarities of the voice of Flamenco singers, first with singer Calixto Sánchez, and later at the school of the Fundación Cristina Heeren de Arte Flamenco. Her technique for training Flamenco voices is the first of its kind and is now the object of research at the Psychology Departments of Granada and Almería. Maria José has worked with all of the singing students who have gone through the academic programme of the school, where she continues to teach Flamenco Voice Technique. At the moment María José is investigating the morphology of the vocal apparatus at the Instituto de Biomedicina of Seville.
