CRISTINA HEEREN
President
Cristina was born in New York in 1943. She majored in Comparative
Literature at Columbia University, and at the same time studied
acting at the prestigious Herbert Berghof Studio. She later
worked as a film-editor and studied singing in Paris. In 1991
she started the production company Pureza, and in 1992 the
stage production El Flamenco es Vida came to life and was
succesfully performed in Spain, in the U.S. and in France.
Since 1993 Cristina Heeren has dedicated most of her time
to the creation and establishment of a Foundation commited
to the conservation and teaching of traditional flamenco in
all of its aspects.
FERNANDO IWASAKI

Fernando was born in Lima in 1961. He is a Writer, Historian
and specialist in the management of Non Profit Organisations.
He worked as a professor at the Catholic University of Lima
(1983-1989), then was Director of Cultural Affairs of the
San Telmo Foudation in Seville (1991-1994). He is the author
of thirteen books such as Libro de mal amor (2001), El
Descubrimento de España (1996), Inquisiciones Peruanas (1994),
Extremo Oriente y Perú en el siglo XVI (1992), and Tres Noches
de Corbata (1987), among others. He is the director of
the literary review Renacimiento.
PEPA SÁNCHEZ (Sevilla, 1973)
Academic Coordinator
Pepa majored in Hispanic Languages and Literature at State
University of New York, and specialist in Flamenco History.
She studied Communications at the University of Sevilla and
worked as a scriptwriter and documentary maker. At the Cristina
Heeren Flamenco Foundation she is responsible for the academic
coordination of the school and the theoretical courses.
