JOSÉ SÁNCHEZ BERNAL, NARANJITO DE TRIANA
(Sevilla, 1933-2002).
Guitarrist
Naranjo is an emblematic singer of the most authentic tradition
of Triana, who combines a profound knowledge of flamenco with
powerful personal creativity. Having been awarded with the
national prize of the Cátedra de Flamencología
de Jerez (1987), the Ondas´s prize (1971), and having
won the first prize of the National Contest of Córdoba
(1971), Naranjito de Triana is considered one of the most
prestigious Flamenco singers in Spain.
He has performed at the most important Flamenco Festivals
of the world, dignifying the cante in every single performance.
The exceptional quality of his voice and his prodigious faculties
can be apreciated in his recordings which illustrate his mastership
in a vast number of styles. Misa Flamenca en Sevilla (1968),
A Triana (1969), Sombra y Luz de mi Cante (1971), and De amor
y lucha (1989) are some of his recordings, during which he
was accompanied by outstanding figures of flamenco guitar
such as Niño Ricardo, Paco de Lucía and Manolo
Sanlúcar.

MANUEL SOLER (Seville, 1943-2003)
Dancer and Percusionist
Manuel Soler started to dance at the age of nine with Adelita
Domingo, and soon entered the Company of Manuela Vargas, with
whom he stayed until 1960, when he created his own company
and traveled around the world during 10 years. At the beginning
of the 70's he went to Mexico where he worked during five
years with another great flamenco dancer, Manolete. In 1975,
back in Spain he became part of the Dance Company of Lola
Flores. It was in 1977 while living in Caracas, Venezuela,
when he discovered the Caribbean rhythms and started to study
percussion. In 1981 he entered the Company of Paco de Lucía,
with whom he stayed during 12 years, first as a dancer and
then as a percussionist. In 1993, he started working in the
recording industry as a percussionist, and at the same time
he accompanied the most important flamenco dancers on the
stage. He was considered to be the teacher of all flamenco
percussionists as he introduced the Peruvian Cajón in the
Flamenco world. In 1996, he produced the show Por aquí te
quiero ver, with which he obtained an incredible success.
In 1998 he participated in Israel ´s Galván show ¡MIRA!, where
he reappeared as a dancer, He was responsible for the compás
department in the Cristina Heeren Flamenco Foundation.
