Pepa Sánchez

Born in 1973 in Sevilla, the daughter of prestigious Flamenco singer “Naranjito de Triana”, Pepa Sánchez grew up in Triana in a household that vibrated with Flamenco music. At the University of Seville Pepa obtained a degree in Communication Sciences, followed by a Master’s degree in Hispanic Language and Literature at the State University of New York, specialising in the history of Flamenco. At the International Institute of San Telmo in Seville, Pepa received a Master’s degree in Direction of Social Institutions (ADIS). She also holds a Cum Laude PHD at the University of Seville.

Pepa worked at Radio Televisión Andaluza as documentalist and script writer. Her book Cantes y Cantaores de Triana (2004) received the essay award from the XIII Bienal de Sevilla.

Since the year 2000 Pepa has been the Flamenco theory teacher at the Fundación Cristina Heeren of which she became Academic Director in 2016, the year when this entity established its base in Triana, in a building specifically designed to house Pepa’s elaborate academic programme.
