Annual Guitar Course

INTENDED FOR

Beginners with basic technical competence on the instrument, but lacking knowledge of the guitar accompaniment (for both dance and cante).

GOAL

In the Spanish guitar course, the main objective is to introduce the student to the knowledge of executive technique and compás, as well as to the interpretation of fundamental guitar accompaniment resources.

The goal of Flamenco guitar’s first year is to introduce the student to the melodic, harmonic and rhythmic knowledge (compás), as well as to the executive technique of flamenco guitar, through an apprenticeship that begins with the palos flamencos closest to Andalusian folklore (fandangos de Huelva and abandolaos) and ends with other fundamental rhythmic styles of flamenco (tangos, cantiñas and soleares) with a primary focus on the accompaniment of cante. Another of the main goals of the first year of Flamenco guitar is to introduce the student to the secrets of dance accompaniment of alegrías, tientos-tangos and soleá por bulerías.

SUBJECTS

The syllabus is divided into trimesters and comprises specific theoretical and practical subjects (technical, stylistic), taught from Monday to Friday. Three of the subjects of the first year of Flamenco guitar are core subjects (common to all specialities)

INTENDED FOR

Students who have passed all subjects of the first year of Flamenco Guitar at the Fundación Cristina Heeren with an average mark of at least 7.00 (out of 10) or who pass the corresponding level tests.

GOAL

To broaden the students’ stylistic repertoire by learning more complex palos in the accompaniment of cante and consolidating the executive technique applied to the instrument, as well as to begin a more integrated accompaniment to dance through assembling and analysing choreographies with a medium degree of difficulty.

The goal of the second year of Flamenco guitar is:

  • To consolidate the mastery of guitar technique through exercises designed for intermediate level.
  • Introduce concert guitar solo set-ups (medium-high level of performance).
  • To develop the accompaniment to cante, considerably broadening the stylistic repertoire.
  • To offer students the necessary knowledge for a more complete dance accompaniment, working on traditional choreographic structures on a wide stylistic repertoire, and gradually assimilating the interdisciplinary and intuitive language of TABLAO.

INTENDED FOR

Students who have passed all subjects of the second year of Flamenco Guitar at the Fundación Cristina Heeren with an average mark of at least 7.00 (out of 10) or who prove in the level tests a clear and firm command of guitar technique and accompaniment of cante. The knowledge of the structure, resources and fundamentals of dance accompaniment will also be critical as a defining criterion for the advanced level of the dance student.

GOAL

The goal of the third year of Flamenco Guitar is to complete the student’s professional training as accompanying guitarists for cante and dancing. In the accompaniment of cante lessons, the harmonic, melodic and rhythmic structures of those cantes that require a greater degree of specialisation will be studied in depth, as well as the cantes libres. In the dance accompaniment lessons, the work will be focused on learning more complex dance stagings and on achieving greater autonomy in the use of the resources of the proposed styles.

INTENDED FOR

Students who have passed all the practical subjects of the third year of Flamenco Guitar at the Fundación Cristina Heeren with an average mark of or above 9 (out of 10).

GOAL

To conclude the training of students as guitarrists by means of a programme of adaptation to the professional and/or pedagogical world. Fourth year students of Practicum acquire practical experience through the performance of specific tasks, designed to meet, on an individual basis, the learning needs and deficiencies of each graduate student (participation in audiovisual projects, productions and events, collaborations as a repeat student and/or assistant in subjects of other specialities).
