1st YEAR OR BASIC DANCE COURSE

DESIGNED FOR

Beginners in flamenco dance, who possess some knowledge in other dance disciplines.

 

 

COURSE AIM

The aim of the 1st Dance Course is to introduce the students to the technical, rhythmical and expression of flamenco dance, first through the styles closest to Andalusian Folklore (Fandangos de Huelva and Abandolados), and then on to other basic flamenco rhythms (Tangos, Cantiñas and Solea/Soleá por Bulerías), apart from assimilating the classical structures by learning simple choreographies.

Another aim of this course, is to introduce the students to the interaction with the traditional codes of the guitar and singing accompaniment in the Alegrías. The student will also learn to use the palillos (castanets) and the mantón (shawl), fundamental accessories of the Sevillian School Dance.

 

 

SUBJECTS

The academic program includes theoretical and practical subjects like technique, styles, and accompaniment methods from Monday through Friday. The 1st year Basic Dance course consists of three core subjects (common to all specialities), one of them optional.
The expected level of competence is described in detail in the general school curriculum of the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd year in each of the three specialities.

2nd year INTERMEDIATE DANCE LEVEL

Desigend for:

Students who have approved all of the subjects of the 1st year Dance Course at the Fundación Cristina Heeren with a minimum note of 7 (out of 10), or who can demonstrate in the level test that they possess a minimum flamenco dance repertoire: Fandangos, Cantiñas, Tangos and Soleá por Bulerías.

 

 

COURSE AIM

Enrich the students’ flamenco repertoire, through the learning of new choreographies with a medium grade of difficulty, and to consolidate the technique (both corporal and of the zapateado), as well as the study of the different accessories of the Sevillian Flamenco Dance School, worked individually, bata de cola, mantón (shawl), palillos (castanettes), and abanico (fan).

The aim of the 2nd year Dance Course is to master the techniques learned the previous year and used them in different choreographies, trying to enrich and to perfectionate the movements, and enlarging the use of the traditional resources of this specialty.

Students will start to study the accessories of the Sevillian Flamenco Dance School from a purely technical point, and, only later, they will apply them in different choreographies.

Another one of the aims of this course, is to give the students the tools to manage to interact and improvise and communicate with the students of the other disciplines (TABLAO).

3rd Year ADVANCED DANCE COURSE

Designed for:

Students who have approved all the subjects of the 2nd year of the Dance Course at the Fundación Cristina Heeren, with a minimum note of 7 (out of 10), or who can demonstrate a clear domain of the corporal technique and of the zapateado, as well as high knowledge of the compás. The student is also expected to know the structure, the resources, and the fundaments of the Soleá, Soleá por Bulería, Caña, Cantiñas and Tientos-Tangos.

 

 

COURSE AIM:

To consolidate the different techniques learned in the 2nd Course of Flamenco Dance and to enrich the students’ dance repertoire, through the study choreographies with a higher level of difficulty, and choreographies in which they will use at the same time, the different accessories of the Sevillian Flamenco School (bata, mantón, Castanets and abanico)
The aim of the 3rd year is to complete the students’ professional education and convert them into professional dancer, for this reason they will study the more complex styles, enlarging their repertoire, and perfectioning the movements execution and precision.
We will address the study of the Sevillian Dance School by learning it both technically as choreographically.
We also ask our students to integrate all the technical, stylistic, historic, and choreographic knowledge, into a new artistic personality.

 

 

SUBJECTS

The academic program includes theoretical and practical subjects like technique, styles, and combined from Monday through Friday. The 3rd year consists in two Core subjects (common to all specialties), and a Final Project that will be the last step to complete the program of the Fundación Cristina Heeren.

4th Year of FLAMENCO DANCE (PRACTICUM)

Designed for

Students who have passed with outstanding results (Grade A) all the practical subjects of the 3rd year course of the Cristina Heeren Foundation.

 

 

COURSE AIM

Complete the students training as Flamenco Dancers, through a program of adaptation to the professional and/or pedagogical world. Students in the 4th year will gain practical experience by carrying out specific tasks, designed to attend individual gaps and learning necessities of each student by participating in audio-visual projects, productions, and events, and collaborating in the classes as repeating or assistant student in subjects of specialities.
